On the evening of Monday, November 27, Walnut Springs Middle School hosted its first-ever community outreach night at the Northern Lights branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. More than 75 students and family members attended the event – a turnout so large that a second room was needed!

Walnut Springs teachers Kim Mason, Kim Beracierto, Heather Sunday, and Ohio State student teacher Maureen Flanagan spoke to guests about strategies that students and families can use to be successful in middle school and beyond.  A student-made video highlighting the school and pupils speaking in native languages was shown, along with presentations by students. The Walnut Springs administrative staff was also there to meet and mingle with families.  Many families brought younger siblings to the event – the next generation of Walnut Springs students.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive reception of the event, future outreach nights are already being planned.
