On September 14 and 15, more than 300 students at Walnut Springs celebrated what it was like to live during the 1990s by participating in a “Before You Were Born” program in the Center For Inspiration. Students tried their hand at Pogs, created CD Art and friendship pins in the makerspace, worked collectively on a jigsaw puzzle, tried to solve a crossword puzzles based on 90s trivia, covered textbooks with paper bags, folded notes, folded cootie catchers, played the DOS version of Oregon Trail and navigated the library website to locate clues to unlock locks on a breakout box. To get into the spirit, music from the 1990s was played throughout the space and 90s pop culture videos and television programs were played on the flat screens. Some pupils even dressed up in 90s grunge and hip-hop attire. The next “Before You Were Born” segment will be held in December when students will get to experience what it was like to live during the 1980s.
