Westerville City School District officials in 2013 launched an aggressive Strategic Plan to shape the district into one that is capable of meeting the needs of 21st century learners.  Now nearly four years into the implementation of this plan, the district is at a checkpoint.

“It’s time to re-engage our community to review progress on our Strategic Plan and determine what, if any, adjustments are needed,” said Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg.  “We’ll also take the opportunity to explore community members’ ideas and expectations for our schools, as well as how the education we provide shapes and prepares students for future success.”

The 2013 Strategic Plan incorporates input from more than 300 residents, parents, students, business professionals, civic organizations and others who helped identify what the community desires most for the education of its youth.  District officials are working to ensure they gather additional input from representative segments of the community, particularly individuals who are not often involved in school matters.

“We’re very interested in hearing from our community’s senior citizens and residents who do not have children enrolled in our district,” Kellogg said.  “For anyone wanting to help shape the future of their community’s schools, it’s only a three-hour commitment across two evenings.”

The first evening entails a large-group meeting to review past progress and gather feedback on current strategic plan components. During the second evening, participants will engage in small-group conversations to delve deeper into feedback obtained in the large group setting.

Large-group meetings are set for 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, and Wednesday, April 5, 2017.  Participants need to attend only one of these meetings at the district’s Early Learning Center (ELC), 936 Eastwind Drive.

Small-group meetings will run from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on April 19, 2017, and April 20, 2017, at the ELC.  Participants will attend only one of these conversations, though they must have attended a large-group session beforehand.

Given the capacity of the ELC and small-group facilitation procedures, participation on any given night is set at 120 individuals.

“Should we exceed those numbers,” Kellogg explained, “other options will be available for interested individuals to provide input.”
