Nasra Ahmed (8th grade), Luke Harvery (7th grade), and Derrick Porter (6th grade) were the three finalists in the 2017 Walnut Springs Geography Bee. The trio competed against 34 other semifinalists. Each Social Studies class, which included all students at Walnut Springs, held four qualifying rounds on January 9 to narrow the field to the 34 semifinalists. In the Championship Round, it came down to Ahmed and Harvery who went head to head for three questions. Ahmed was crowned the 2017 Walnut Springs Geography Bee Champion. He will take an online test in an attempt to qualify for the National Geographic State Bee.
