Math teachers at Walnut Springs Middle School hosted a Pi Day competition on Friday, March 11. Teams of students were given 10, 15, or 20 minutes to create a paper chain that represented the digits of Pi and each digit was assigned a color. At the end of the given time frame, teams calculated their speed per hour. Additionally, a class average was calculated. The fastest team was a group of 8th graders with a speed of 603 links/hour. The highest class average was again eighth grade with 550 links/hour. Winning teams celebrated on Monday, March 14, by eating – what else – pie.
