Walnut Springs students enjoyed an outpouring of support for their efforts to end use of the “r” word.

The 6th grade Boys to Mentors and Girls to Mentors groups at Walnut Springs Middle School, led by guidance counselor Tom Markle, made posters, shirts and banners in honor of Spread the Word to End the Word Day.  This day, celebrated the second Wednesday of each March, was started in 2009 by two college students who aspired to raise awareness of how hurtful the R-word (retarded) can be.  Hundreds of Walnut Springs Middle School students signed a pledge on March 2 to “spread the word to end the R-word.”
