“Mash a Key with Mr. C” was the name of an exciting event that took place at Walnut Springs Middle School on Monday morning, December 8.  Assistant Principal Ernest Clinkscale challenged the top 25 typists in Jane Elliott’s Literacy Skills for Career Education classes to a type-off.  Mr. Clinkscale and his student challengers gathered in the Media Center to partake in the contest, which measured both speed and accuracy.  They were surrounded by dozens of raucous pupils who made signs and cheered them on as if they were attending a sporting event.  When the dust settled, Mr. Clinkscale experienced the “agony of defeat.”  His 40 words per minute didn’t hold a candle to the 69 words per minute achieved by sixth grader Rodney Jarrett.
