On Monday evening, March 11, the Westerville City Schools Board of Education and Superintendent John Kellogg recognized Heritage Middle School for winning the State DiscoverE’s Future City Competition, held at the Eastland Career Center on January 12.  This marks the second year in a row Heritage has walked away with the State title.  Seventh and eighth grade students, led by teachers Anne Bates and Shannon Ball, along with engineer Erik McPeek from the Delaware County Regional Sewer District, were present as Principal Dru Tomlin accepted a framed resolution for the school.  Each participant received individual resolutions as well.  Team Heritage won the competition for their future city, Meri Heima (meaning “a greater home”), and also won the People’s Choice Award, Best Use of Ceramics, and honorable mention for Best Architectural Model.  At the national Future City Competition, held in Washington, D.C. in February, the Heritage team won the Best use of Innovative Construction Materials and Techniques Award.  They were thanked for representing the Westerville City School District and the State of Ohio with pride and distinction.
