Many exceptional students in Westerville exemplify the qualities of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Perhaps one of them is in your school building, classroom, scout troop, church, sports team, or neighborhood.  Here is your opportunity to shine the spotlight on some deserving youngsters.

Nominations are being accepted through October 27 for the 2018 Westerville Martin Luther King Fouse Award, named in honor of William H. Fouse, the first black graduate of Westerville Public Schools and Otterbein College.  One award for each level (Primary and Secondary) will be given to a pupil living in the Westerville City School district.  This year’s theme is “Never Lose Infinite Hope.”

Nominators will be asked to explain, within one typewritten, double-spaced page, why their candidate should be considered for the Fouse Award, citing specific examples of how each student:

  • Has taken action when he/she sees an injustice;
  • Exemplifies characteristics like respectfulness, bravery and tenacity;
  • Has a history of service to others or to his/her community; and
  • Respects the differences in others.

Award winners will be notified in December, and each will receive two free registrations to the 2018 Westerville Martin Luther King Breakfast Celebration, where they will be recognized.  This event will take place at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, January 15 at Villa Milano.  Please visit https://goo.gl/forms/Y26MMxiJMO3bRm0r2 to learn more and nominate a deserving student.
