Middle Schools Invention Convention Winners Announced

The 8th annual Westerville Middle School Invention Convention season concluded recently as Westerville’s four Middle Schools each held building competitions.  Sponsored by the Gifted Education and Science Departments, students competed at the building level by setting up displays and sharing presentations.  They were judged by a panel of distinguished educators, administrators, and community members.

At Blendon, there was a 3rd place tie between Leo Fagge and the team of Gianna King and Liza Zhukavets.  Second place went to Mattie Cotter, and the team of Madilynne Lansinger and Grace Eby earned first place.  All are eighth graders.

The Genoa the first place winning team was Katie Pullins and Laiken Hendricks. Second place went to Colin Bang.   There was a third place tie between D.J. Bardwell and Nick Cunningham. All of the winners are seventh graders.

At Heritage, 6th grade student Jeffrey Siefker took top honors in the competition.  Second place went to Dareen Atieh and the third place winner was Mollie Kinkead, both sixth graders.

At Walnut Springs, 6th graders came out on top with third place awarded to Simon Ebbrecht, second place to Miles Fike and first place to Dezmon Howard and Demetrius Howard, both 6th graders.

These students were invited to submit a video of their presentations for consideration to be included in the state convention.  The Ohio Invention Convention & Entrepreneurship Competition will be held on July 30 at the Ohio State Fair.

Winners at the State Convention will move on to Nationals.  The National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurship Expo takes place at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office HQ in Washington D.C.  from June 1-3.
