Westerville Partners for Education initiated a Mathematics Tutoring Program at Heritage Middle School and Whittier Elementary School during the second semester of 2015-16.  Partners for Education member Andrew Tinkham facilitated the program with the assistance of International Baccalaureate (IB) coordinator Bill Heinmiller and math teachers Anne Bates and Kimi Dodds.

Twelve IB students partnered with Heritage and Whittier to provide mathematics assistance during Study Hall and/or after school.  The “Students Assisting Students” model was a win-win, yielding greater confidence and increased math skills for all participants.

With positive feedback from building administrators, students, parents, and teachers, Westerville Partners for Education President Stephanie Henderson is hopeful the program will be expanded to include more students and schools next year.

A recognition banquet was held at Whittier Elementary on Wednesday, April 27 to honor the IB mathematics tutors.
