Students and staff members at Heritage Middle School culminated Black History, Random Acts of Kindness Month and the February character word, Honesty, at a school wide assembly held Wednesday morning, February 24.

Pupils read original poetry and short essays and the 7th and 8th grade choir sang a Zambia Folk song called Bonse Aba, accompanied by 8th grade percussion students.  A group of 8th grade students also choreographed and performed an African dance.  Keynote speaker Dr. Javar Godfrey talked about Unity in Our History.

Throughout the month of February, students have been studying Black History through various classes and have been listening to music of black artists in the morning and by way of the daily video announcements.  They have also participated in daily initiatives promoting Random Acts of Kindness, while focusing on February’s character word, Honesty.

All activities were designed to promote P.R.I.D.E. Purpose, Respect (to self, others, the community and the world), Independence, Discipline and Evaluation.

The Huskies are gearing up for March where they will promote Perseverance, the Word of the Month, through activities that involve March Madness, and supporting a 6th grade social studies campaign called H2S (Heritage Helps Syria).
