Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Heritage and Genoa middle schools had the opportunity to participate in school-wide spelling bees recently. After completing tests, winners went head to head in an oral bee until grade level champions were determined.
At Heritage Middle School, grade level champions Andy Badu (6), Catherine Adams (7) and Juna Vonville (8) competed until Adams spelled her way to becoming the school winner. At Genoa Middle School, grade level winners Zach Barna (6), Aishu Iiangovan (7) and Ema Rennie (8) competed fiercely, with Rennie taking it all.
Adams and Rennie will represent their respective schools by participating in an on-line spelling bee which may result in the opportunity to compete in March at the regional Scripps Spelling Bee in Athens, Ohio. Scripp’s is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis by the E.W. Scripps Company to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives.
