Westerville Community Culture Celebration is Sunday, September 27

The Westerville Community Culture Celebration will take place from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday September 27, at the Westerville Community Center, located at 350 North Cleveland Avenue.  Dynamic speakers with unique backgrounds and experiences will share stories sure to unite and inspire our community.

As the world grows smaller and the population of our country is becoming more diverse, the dynamics of Westerville are shifting as well.  The purpose of this celebration is to have open dialogue to educate and promote cultural awareness throughout our community and in our daily lives.  The keynote speakers will be presenting their life experiences and answering questions attendees may have.  The youth of our community will discuss daily obstacles they face and their participation in Challenge Day.  The purpose of this forum is to build cultural bridges, break down bias, and promote peace, acceptance, inclusion and one humanity.  Scheduled to speak are:

 

1:00-1:45         Sofiya Karpovich, Holocaust survivor

2:00-2:45         Participants of the Westerville Schools Challenge Day

3:00-3:45         Bishop Joey Johnson, Understanding Implicit Bias

4:00-4:45         Bol Eweng, Sudanese artist and inspirational speaker

 

In addition, Lotts of Tales storyteller, Teri Lott, will share stories from around the world every half hour on the hour for children ages four and up.  Booths will be set up displaying arts, crafts, and wares of various cultures.  And food samples will be provided by Fiesta Jalisco.

Event partners are the City of Westerville, Rotary International, Otterbein University, Leadership Westerville, Challenge Day, the Westerville Area Ministerial Association, and Westerville City Schools.
