On May 12 and 13, students in the Heritage Middle School advanced 7th grade Language Arts classes competed in a 7th grade Battle of the Books Competition in the Media Center.  They read a preset list of 10 books including such titles as Treasure Island, Where the Red Fern Grows, Pictures of Hollis Woods, and The Outsiders and wrote questions about the books.  Then, the classes formed teams and competed in a Jeopardy–style contest until one team was declared the class winner.  The winning teams then competed to be declared the 7th grade champion.  This year, the winning team was from Dr. Tonya Salisbury’s 7th period class.  Second place went to Dr. Salisbury’s 1st period class, followed in a close third by the team from Sarah Amy’s 2nd period class.  This opportunity was made possible thanks to the collaboration of both Language Arts teachers, Media Specialist Kris Konik and Gifted Education Facilitator Debbie Pellington.
