Rotary Club of Westerville Students of the Month for October 2020

The Rotary Club of Westerville recognized its October 2020 Students of the Month during a virtual meeting Oct. 1. Throughout the school year, from October through May, the Club honors four students from local high schools each month. Working with the school principals and counselors, one student each month is chosen from Westerville Central, Westerville North, Westerville South and St. Francis DeSales high schools. The students, their parents, and the school administrators are introduced and honored at the Rotary Club’s first weekly luncheon each month.

October 2020 honoree profiles

Westerville Central: Eva Grace’s favorite subjects are English and History. The senior is blood drive coordinator for WCHS’ National Honors Society, a Site Council member and a Student Voices for Unity leader. She’s also an AP Scholar, received an AP High 5 and earned the 3rd year academic award. She plans to attend Ohio University to study English, pre-law and communications. 

Westerville North: Lauren McCann’s favorite subjects are AP Literature, Honors Anatomy and AP Psychology. The senior is a member of the Drama Club, Superintendent's Advisory Committee and International Thespian Society. She has had multiple roles for The Odyssey: reporter, business manager, advertisement/business editor. She is the Drama Club secretary and has been heavily involved in the school’s theatre productions, including The Addams Family; Miracle on 34th Street; Mary Poppins; Senior-Directed One Acts; You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown; A Chrsitmas Carol; Newsies; Crazy For You; Dearly Departed; and Mamma Mia. She has also participated in the Interact Club, Be the Change Club, Student Council and the Warrior Way Leadership Summit. She also has completed extensive volunteer work. Her awards, honors and acknowledgments include: Honor Roll (four years); Academic Excellence Award (two years); Pupil Services Warrior Way Award; “Best Actress in a Play” and “Best Comedic Actress in a Play” in 2020; and National Honor Society. She has also earned 1st-5th star/varsity letter in dramatic arts by the International Thespian Society. She plans to study elementary education at the University of Cincinnati, Wittenberg University, Kent State University, Miami University or The Ohio State University.

Westerville South: Kori Tombaugh’s favorite subjects are American Sign Language and Wind Ensemble. They are a member of WSHS’ marching band and Gay/Straight Alliance. They have been recognized with Cats with Class and Academic Excellence twice as well as received an Academic letter and was named a Westerville South Student of the Month. They are interested in attending Kent State University to study environmental studies.

St. Francis DeSales: JJ Baughman’s favorite subjects are science, history and government. The senior plays soccer and football and is interested in photography and physical therapy. He has been recognized by the National Society of High School Scholars. JJ says he is very grateful to receive the Rotary Club of Westerville’s Student of the Month award. He hopes to attend Ohio State, Ohio University or Calvin College. He is unsure what he wants to study but is veering towards physical therapy.
