Realignment Committee set to resume work

After completing only two meetings last spring, work of the volunteer community committee tasked with developing attendance boundaries for the district’s new elementary and middle school buildings came to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic. With little to no impact on the construction timeline for these facilities and a new school year underway, committee members are about to resume their work through videoconference technology.

Committee members will convene virtually at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, and on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020. Their work is focused solely on elementary and middle school attendance areas; high school boundaries will remain the same. A recommendation from the committee is expected no later than Nov. 2, 2020, with opportunities for community review tentatively scheduled for Nov. 16, Nov. 17, Dec. 1, and Dec. 7, 2020. Logistics for these community opportunities have not yet been determined but will be announced once finalized.

The final Realignment Committee meeting will occur at 6 p.m. on Jan. 19, 2021. Though the Board of Education has not yet set its 2021 meeting schedule, if the historical meeting cadence is followed, a first reading on the recommended boundary plan would be scheduled for Feb. 8, 2021, and a final reading on Feb. 22, 2021. Regular Board of Education meetings traditionally begin at 6 p.m.

Additional information regarding public observance and feedback on the work of the Board-appointed elementary and middle school boundary committees will be posted online at www.wcsoh.org/boundary as it becomes available.
