Participation in the Continental Mathematics League Contest, facilitated through the Westerville City School District (WCSD) Gifted Education Department in conjunction with advanced math teachers, is an annual tradition across the district’s middle schools.
Each year, sixth-grade students enrolled in advanced math classes have the opportunity to take part in this national math competition, which is designed to both improve and celebrate their abilities in problem solving, analytical reasoning, mathematical computation, and reading.
WCSD students competed in the Pythagorean Contest Division during this year’s 38th annual event. The competition consisted of five meets in which students were challenged to complete six multi-step problems in just 30 minutes. Top scoring sixth-grade students from participating schools were:
- Genoa Middle: Taylor Hayashi, Leah Kalan, Grady Smith
