Algalita, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to combat plastic pollution, is featuring a National History Day project created by two Genoa Middle School students on their web page, to highlight what youth across the country are doing to accelerate the transition toward a world where plastic pollution is unthinkable.

Sixth graders Kate Steele and Mackenzie Boyd created a 10-minute performance titled The Great Pacific Garbage Patch for their National History Day project.  It tells the story of what happened when Algalita founder Captain Charles Moore discovered a massive area of plastic soup floating in the Pacific Ocean.  His question was not how it got there, but rather how our consumption habits have spiraled so out of control.
