Results are in from the 2019 Teachers of the Year contest, presented by Columbus Parent and ThisWeek Community News. The project, now in its sixth year, recognizes outstanding Central Ohio educators at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Winners from all three categories teach in the Westerville City School District – Jim Ledford, Alcott Elementary; Scott Delligatti, Genoa Middle School; and Caitlin Maloy, Westerville North High School. This marks the first time teachers from one school district have swept the competition.
Nominations were received from school districts all over Central Ohio. Parents, colleagues, administrators and students nominated the educators on the Parent and This Week websites from January 2 - 30. After reviewing all of the nominations and conducting independent research, the editorial staffs of Parent and ThisWeek chose 15 finalists and put them up for a public vote. Online voting was held from March 7 - 27. The three winners were recently surprised at their schools. They received a banner to hang at their school, a framed certificate and a $100 Cameron Mitchell Restaurants gift card.
Stories about each winner will appear in the Teachers of the Year package in the summer issue of Columbus Parent, which comes out June 6. They also will be profiled in ThisWeek Westerville News & Public Opinion, tentatively in the May 30 edition.
