Five years ago, students at Genoa Middle School were given an assignment to propose a new symbol for the State of Ohio.  Five seventh graders came up with the idea that the barn should be designated as the Buckeye State’s official historical architectural structure.  After much effort, their one-sentence proposal unanimously passed the House of Representatives in March 2017.  It has since stalled in the Senate.  The pupils are in high school now, but they have not given up.  Neither have their teachers, Debbie Pellington and Caley Nestor Baker.
