Genoa Township police officer Jason Berner, who serves as the School Resource Officer at Genoa Middle School, and Assistant Principal Chris Poynter have been working this year to help create a new student leadership program.  So far, their eighth graders have taken on a number of projects to better the school, like painting the basketball hoops outside and painting the railings on the stairs.  They decided, collectively, that having a grill to prepare food for staff and students would benefit morale.  So they wrote a speech requesting a donation from Home Depot and on October 17, that wish came true when store manager Ryan Pennell presented them with a beautiful grill to take back to the school.  Genoa administrators thanked Home Depot for their generosity and applauded the student leaders for their efforts.
