Twelve Westerville Students Move On to Compete at State Science Day

Twelve students from the Westerville City School District will exhibit their research or technology design projects on Saturday, May 13 at State Science Day.  They are:  Addy Moore and Tan Finn, Blendon Middle School; Samson Gurgiolo and Kathryn Mowery, Emerson Elementary; Kyra Lesmerises, Genoa Middle School; Jonathan Stowers, Heritage Middle School; and Kayla Arens, Paul Loeser, Hannah Rex, Matthew Schirtzinger, Philip Simms and Anna Whiting, Walnut Springs Middle School.  The event will take place at the French Field House and St. John Arena on the campus of The Ohio State University. 

First held in 1949, the 69th annual State Science Day is sponsored by The Ohio Academy of Science, American Electric Power, The Ohio Environmental Education Fund, Ethicon, The Ohio Tuition Trust Authority, and Battelle.  The Ohio State University will host the event.  The academic equivalent of a State athletic championship, this year’s undertaking is one of the largest of its kind in the nation.  State Science Day is the pinnacle of student-originated, inquiry- and technology-designed based education for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students.
