After winning the state contest, Genoa Middle School student Ema Rennie is headed to the University of Maryland to compete with 3,000 students from all around the world in the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day competition.  Rennie advanced because of her exceptional paper about investigative journalist Gary Webb.  She was honored by the Westerville City Schools Board of Education on June 8.

Also lauded was Genoa media specialist Deanna McDaniel, who has been nominated as a Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year, which recognizes creativity, commitment and inspiration in developing student interest in history.  The national winner of that award will be announced at the National History Day competition on June 18.
