Fifty-two students have qualified for participation in the Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication Region II final local spelling bee, which will be held on March 14 at the school’s Baker University Student Center in Athens.  These spellers attained a score of at least 32 on the online test.

Included in the group are Aishu Ilangovan of Genoa Middle School and Katherine Graves of Heritage Middle School.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation’s largest and longest-running educational program.  Its purpose is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage.  The Bee is administered on a not-for-profit basis by the E.W. Scripps Company.  Local funding was provided through the Columbus Dispatch.
