Using grant funding, students from Caley Nestor-Baker’s 7th grade advanced Social Studies class at Genoa Middle School and students in Jennifer Cole’s advanced 6th grade Social Studies class at Heritage Middle School, spent a day recently at the Ohio Statehouse.  In addition to meeting State Representative Anne Gonzales, who took them onto the House Floor, the pupils took part in a tour of the Statehouse and had the opportunity to view treasures in the Statehouse Museum.  Additionally, the youngsters participated in a contest in which they were asked to research and propose a new symbol for the State of Ohio.  The winners of that contest will have their proposal turned into a bill, which will be presented to the Ohio House in the near future.  The visits were made possible thanks to the Capitol Square Foundation, which has created a transportation grant program with generous gifts from the Honda of America Mfg., Inc. and Walmart.
