Renaissance students enjoyed an afternoon of skating at Skate Zone 71.

Now entering its 10th year of success, the Blendon Middle School Renaissance Awards and Celebration program recognized students who, in order to qualify, met high standards in academics, community service, attendance, attitude, and school spirit.  Three hundred and thirteen pupils – a record number – were honored during the first quarter awards program, which is more than one-third of the total student population.  Since this initiative requires that youngsters take personal responsibility for both meeting set standards and documenting their achievements in a timely manner, Blendon staff and parents are extremely proud of these children.  Each quarter, qualifying students receive both a certificate for their accomplishment, and a tangible reward donated by various local businesses.

A variety of wonderful raffle prizes, donated by local businesses and PTO parents, were distributed, including Renaissance t-shirts from Blendon Principal Kendall Harris and Blendon 50th Anniversary t-shirts donated by retired teacher and volunteer extraordinaire Bobb Woodruff.  In addition, gift cards were received from Cold Stone Creamery, Cucinova Pizza, Dairy Queen, Donato’s Pizza, Fazoli’s Italian Restaurant, Graeter’s Ice Cream, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Magic Mountain Fun Park, Marcus Theatre, Old Skool Skateboards, Skyline Chili, Texas Roadhouse, and current and former PTO members Meg Miller and Carla Tedeschi.  The Grand Prize was a Birthday Party for 10 from Skate Zone 71.

Following the awards presentation, students spent the rest of the day enjoying skating and playing laser tag and video games at Skate Zone 71.
