Kara Johnson returned to Blendon Middle School to urge students there to set goals and develop good study habits.
Mentors Opening Doors Enriching Lives, best known as the MODEL Mentoring Program, marks its fourth year in the Westerville City School District of building character, self-esteem, and healthy relationships for middle school girls in 7th and 8th grade. As a celebration to wrap up the school year, mentors and students met for their final workshops recently. Eighth graders were given a farewell celebration before heading off to high school.
Kara Johnson, a 2015 Westerville Central High School graduate and National Merit scholar, spoke at Blendon Middle School, where she attended the MODEL program. She graduated this year from the University of Cincinnati and will attend the University of Pennsylvania Medical School on a full academic scholarship. Johnson told students to set goals, get involved, develop good study skills like time management and organization, and build relationships with teachers and peers.
