Of 17 finalists selected in the 2017 Laws of Life essay contest, five are from Westerville City Schools. They are Donovan Varney, Blendon Middle School; Brendan Leonard, Genoa Middle School; Lauryn Swanson, Heritage; and Isabella Mercurio and Emily Voneman, Walnut Springs. Winners will be announced at a banquet on Tuesday, May 16, at Wendy’s headquarters in Dublin.
Laws of Life is a character-themed essay competition for students, originally created by Sir John Templeton in 1987 in Winchester Tennessee, and adopted by the BBB Center for Character Ethics in 2009 as a vital component of the future leaders programing.
The contest challenges young people to discover through reflection and writing what matters most to them in their own lives and the principles they believe should guide their behavior and choices.
The Central Ohio BBB Laws of Life Essay Contest is a competition of the best Laws of Life essays written by middle grade students in the 22-county Central Ohio service area. The BBB Center for Character Ethics sponsors the regional contest to recognize the achievements of the exceptional youth who participate in their local school contests, and to encourage schools and communities to engage in this enriching and valuable experience.
