March 10 was Shine Your Smile Day at Blendon Middle School, which hosted a Mobile Dentists/Smile Program. The team set up a mini dental office in the building to provide dental examinations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, x-rays and sealants (if necessary) for children whose families opted to participate. Blendon has two days reserved for March 2017 so more students’ dental needs can be served.
“We know that tooth decay is the most common chronic and infectious disease among children,” explained Margo Woll, D.D.S. and Marcy Borofsky, D.D.S., co-directors of Mobile Dentists/Smile Programs. “We also know poor oral health causes other problems in children, such as diminished growth in toddlers, poor nutrition due to difficulty eating and an increase in bacteria in the blood and respiratory systems.”
