The Westerville City Schools Board of Education approved another organizational move during its June 14  regular board meeting as part of the district’s succession planning initiative.

Starting Aug. 1, Scott Reeves will become the district’s Executive Director of Human Resources, taking on the role from Steve Mazzi who is leaving the district in December. Reeves, who has served as Executive Director of Secondary Academic Affairs since joining the district in 2010, will work with Mazzi through the end of the year as part of the transition into his new position.

With his resignation effective in December, Mazzi is bringing his career to a close after more than 36 years of service in education and 21 years of military service to the Ohio Air National Guard. He has worked in the district’s Human Resources department since 2015.

Superintendent Dr. John Kellogg first announced the need to begin succession planning and modify the district-level leadership team structure in January. A number of people in key leadership positions will be eligible to retire over the next two to three years, so succession planning will permit the transition of various responsibilities and mentoring of individuals in their new roles over time.

The restructuring plan does not grow the size of the district’s leadership team or require the hiring of additional administrative personnel. The plan is also expected to pay for itself over the next few years as veteran administrators retire from the district and salaries are adjusted accordingly.
