A new broadband access pilot will provide refurbished computers and internet hotspots with a year’s worth of prepaid unlimited internet service, to low-income households with students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC), in partnership with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio and PC’s for People, has developed the Central Ohio Broadband Access Pilot Program to address the digital divide for Central Ohio’s school-aged children by providing high-speed internet access to families who need it the most.
Through the partnership, 10,000 refurbished computers and 10,000 internet hotspots will be available to any Central Ohio household with a K-12 student, including those in the Westerville City School District.
Among the organizations providing support to the program: The City of Columbus, Franklin County Commissioners, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Cardinal Health, Chase Foundation, WCMH 4, CAS and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
