Whittier Students Give their Regards to Broadway during Choral Showcase

Whittier Elementary School fourth graders gave it their all during a Showcase tribute to Broadway.

 

 

 

Fourth grade students at Whittier Elementary School presented a choral showcase called On Broadway on Wednesday, March 21.  The performance highlighted of some of Broadway’s biggest musical numbers and featured costumes inspired from a variety of musicals including 42nd Street, Peter Pan, The Wiz, Little Shop of Horrors, Seussical, Ragtime, Newsies, Into the Woods, and Mary Poppins.

In preparation for the concert, the youngsters learned about the history of modern Broadway theater from the first musical, Little Johnny Jones, to recent hits like Newsies and Disney’s 2014 movie adaption of Into the Woods. The children also collaborated with their peers to design and teach choreography to their classmates for every musical number.  Music teacher Evan McIntyre directed.
