As part of the Motown tribute, students sang and performed songs on recorders.

The fourth grade students and recorder club at Whittier Elementary School presented a recorder and choral showcase entitled “An Evening of Motown” on Thursday, April 26.  Part of the program included Motown-inspired recorder pieces from the Recorder Karate curriculum.  The performance was an upbeat ode to Motown and live television variety hours.

In preparation for the concert, the pupils learned a variety of musical numbers, including Motown hits made famous by musical groups such as the Jackson 5, the Supremes, and the Temptations.  Choreography for the show was inspired from the Broadway production of Motown: The Musical.  Evan McIntyre directed the group, with assistance from student teacher Riley Bivens.
