Original pieces of art were auctioned off throughout the evening at “An Artful Affair,” which attracted dozens of community members who gathered at the Everal Barn to socialize and raise money for the Westerville Education Foundation and Concord Counseling.

The Westerville Education Foundation, Concord Counseling and The Arts Council of Westerville hosted, on April 21, a new, art-oriented community event, An Artful Affair.  Presenting Sponsor was Alliance Data and Supporting Sponsor was Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

The gathering took place at the Everal Barn & Homestead, first featuring art-oriented activities for families, as well as an auction of student artwork.  Later that evening, the focus shifted to adults as guests enjoyed live music provided by Westerville students, appetizers and beverages.  The Westerville Education Foundation (WEF) also honored teachers who have utilized WEF resources and/or been recognized through various WEF initiatives during the school year, including grant recipients:

  • Kristina “KK” Hunter, representing 14 elementary schools, for Mobile MakerSpace;
  • Jim Ledford, Alcott Elementary, First Grade CD Production;
  • Chris Poynter and Megan Winand, Hawthorne Elementary, the Hawthorne Hackers After-School Coding Club;
  • Julie Koontz, Hawthorne, Annehurst and Heritage, for Let’s Get Ready to Learn/Regulating Our Body;
  • Marynelle Liston, Blendon Middle School, Equipment of Sensory Regulation;
  • Jean Trimble, Walnut Springs Middle School, The Dick & Jane Project Inspirational Talk and in-School Song Production Workshop;
  • Kyle Campbell, Westerville North, Tanks for Teachers; and
  • Damon Mollenkopft, Westerville North, for the Westerville North Media Arts Audio Production Lab.

Everyone in attendance got the opportunity to take home several pieces of high-quality art created and donated by local professional and amateur artists, including items from student artists and clients of Concord Counseling.  The art was auctioned off throughout the evening in silent and live auction formats (conducted by Brian Davis of Auction Ohio.)

In addition, three raffle drawings took place, the first featuring a “palette of prizes” valued at $1,200; the second for painting class for four with Superintendent John Kellogg and taught by Dr. Jan Fedorenko; and the third for soap made by students at Westerville North High School.

Proceeds from the event totaled approximately $7,500 and will help support WEF initiatives to enhance the education of Westerville City School students by promoting and supporting education initiatives undertaken by district employees.
