Fifth grade students at Whittier Elementary School kicked off their service activities with chores to raise money for fleece to make blankets for My Very Own Blanket, a Westerville-based organization providing personalized blankets to local children in foster care.
Bake sales, washing dishes and cars, taking out the trash, and helping neighbors were among the many service activities that generated nearly $500 for the purchase of fleece.
With assistance from parent volunteers, the pupils worked together to make more than 50 blankets during their Fall Celebration, which was held on October 14. Students were thrilled to share the many different ways they earned money during a Team Meeting prior to their blanket-making celebration.
