Enrollment growth in Westerville City Schools created some unique circumstances for the 700+ members of Westerville High School’s Class of 1974, including a split-session schedule their senior year in which some students finished their school day by 11:30 a.m. This modified schedule would remain in place until Westerville North High School opened in 1975.

This summer, members of the WHS Class of ’74 will reconnect and reminisce during their 45th Annual Class Reunion, which is scheduled for August 9, 2019, and August 10, 2019.

Tom Ullom, one of several individuals working to organize the event, said reunion activities start with a golf outing at 1 p.m. on August 9, 2019, at Willow Run Golf Course, 1158 Hazelton-Etna Rd. SW. Check-in for the golf outing begins at noon that day. Then, beginning at 7 p.m. on August 10, 2019, the annual reunion gathering will take place at Wendell’s Pub, 925 N. State Street, in Westerville.

Ullom noted that a private Facebook page called “Westerville High School Class of 1974” is one strategy that event organizers are using in their efforts to reach as many classmates as possible.

“Keeping track of our classmates has been a huge challenge, even with social media,” Ullom explained. “We still have over 150 classmates missing since graduation, and we are aware of 45 others who are deceased.”

Ullom added that any teachers interested are welcome to attend the August 10 reunion gathering at no cost, and “they just need to let us know by July 1 if they are coming for our food tally.”

For more information, or to register for the reunion, classmates may contact Ullom by e-mail at tcullom@aol.com. They also may contact Cindy Townsend-Henson by email at chenson@columbus.rr.com.
