John O’Connor is on a mission.  Working with Westerville Partners for Education (WPE) and Westerville Kiwanis, his goal this year is to give at least one free book to every elementary student in the Westerville City School District.  He and his team of volunteers is off to a good start.  So far this school year, more than 5,000 books have gone home with Westerville children at all 14 elementary schools.  They have been distributed through WPE’s Birthday Book Bonanza and at special events such as English as a Second Language (ESL) Family Days, Cougars with Character at Cherrington, Family Literacy Night at McVay, and many more.  Grateful school administrators have realized that they can count on a generous and constant supply of free reading material from the WPE collection.

In addition to more deliveries to schools in the next few months, WPE will provide free books for an upcoming Fouse Reading Night, the annual Westerville Parent Council Summer Expo, at least two more ESL Family Days, and WPE’s 2018 Starry Night event.  O’Connor also plans to have a nice selection of both elementary and middle school interest level books for the district’s Summer School program.
