Twenty-six-year-old Utica police officer Warren Perkins said he is facing the toughest case of his career – getting his son out of Nationwide Children’s Hospital.  Logan, a six-year-old student at Robert Frost Elementary School, was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was eight months old and suffered two strokes by the time he was three, according to his mother, Holly Tome.  The family said that despite getting a flu shot, Logan got sick, which caused his temperature to rise and made him have seizures and another stroke.  His left side remains partially paralyzed.

The bills for his experimental drugs from Canada, not covered by insurance, continue to build. This is not the only challenge Officer Perkins is facing.  His mother, Logan’s grandma, was diagnosed in October with stage four pancreatic cancer.

As he takes time away from his beat, Utica Police Chief Cameron Daily said his department has set up a fundraising account, through Park National Bank, to help the New Albany family.  The account is listed under the Utica Police Department Logan Perkins Benefit Fund.  People wishing to donate can also send checks to the Utica Police Department, 39 Spring Street, Utica, Ohio 43080.
