Among many who addressed Westerville’s new teachers were Dr. John Kellogg, Superintendent of Schools.
Fifty-seven teachers who are new to the Westerville City School District gathered in the Media Center at Westerville Central High School on August 10 and 11 for an orientation session hosted by the Office of Human Resources. The program was designed to help them become familiar with district operations and professional expectations.
The group was greeted by Dr. John Kellogg, Superintendent of Schools, and Dr. Nancy Nestor-Baker, longtime member of the Westerville City Schools Board of Education. On the first day, attendees heard from a number of speakers who addressed topics including Public School Works/Wellness; Email/Intranet, Webpages and Social Media; Custodial Services; Frontline AESOP; Employee Insurance; Benefits/Finances; Special Education; Gifted and Talented; English as a Second Language; Instructional Technology; and Curriculum and Instruction. During lunch, retired high school Principal M. Joy Rose shared a historical perspective.
Subjects covered during the second day of orientation included Paperwork/Tech Support; Power Teacher/Power School; the Resident Educator Program; and My Learning Plan – LPDC and IPDP. Westerville Education Association President Rhonda Gilpin and Membership Chair Amy Hinz concluded the session with a review of the Master Contract.
