It was not hard for Stinger, the Columbus Blue Jackets’ mascot, to generate enthusiasm when he visited Robert Frost Elementary School on January 10. During a 45-minute multimedia assembly, Stinger challenged third and fourth grade students to participate in at least 60 minutes of active play each day. Host Jason Zumpano, Manager of Mascot Services, discussed why active play is important; helped the children understand resting vs. active heart rates; and identified the best ways to engage in active play. Highlights of the presentation included Blue Jackets trivia, a Stinger dance party and a hockey shootout. As the program concluded, it was announced that street hockey equipment was being donated to Robert Frost’s Physical Education Department. In addition, each youngster received a pass to the Chiller Ice Rink. Assembly dates are still available.
