W.A.R.M. representative Stephen Gale gratefully accepts food collected and bagged by Robert Frost students as event organizer Meghan Davis, an ESL paraprofessional and student teacher from Otterbein University, supervises.
Meghan Davis pretty much defines going “above and beyond.” The ESL paraprofessional and Otterbein University pupil is finishing her student teaching stint at Robert Frost Elementary School. She is required to complete a community service project and involve her pupils in service learning. Davis created the Helping Hands Project, where each class was provided with a Super Service Passport. When students completed a service challenge, their teacher placed a stamp on the corresponding page. Weekly themes included Thank a Community Helper; Help the Environment; Help your Family; Help your School; and Help your Community. The goal was to empower pupils with the realization that they can make a difference. As a school, students have completed more than 2,000 challenges, including a recent food drive for the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M.).
