Maddy Varner talked about coding with fifth grade students at Robert Frost Elementary.

Maddy Varner, former Disney research intern and current Carnegie Mellon University junior, visited Cindy Campbell’s fifth grade science and math magnet class at Robert Frost Elementary School on January 8.  Varner, a Grandview Heights graduate, shared with the students some of the projects she has worked on during the past two years, including singing plants, an app to create 3-D figures, pixel bots, and various Disney assignments.  Varner told the children that working on these endeavors has challenged her problem solving skills and taught her that you cannot give up when something does not work out; instead, you keep working until the problem is solved.  The pupils have been learning to code since participating in the “Hour of Code” in December.   Varner said she has only been coding for two years and was impressed with the skills the fifth graders are learning.  The students enjoyed hearing about the exciting opportunities that are awaiting them in the world of coding.
