The Westerville City Schools Board of Education is seeking feedback from families regarding the proposed 2015-2016 calendar.  The calendar, as it was presented in a first reading to the Board on September 22, can be viewed by visiting www.wcsoh.org, and clicking on the box marked “2015-2016 Calendar Review & Feedback.”

The Board annually approves calendars for future school years to give families and employees adequate time to plan their personal and professional schedules accordingly.  Due to significant changes and uncertainties at the state level, the district delayed the adoption of its 2015-2016 calendar until this year.

The Board is expected to hold its second reading on the calendar during its October 27 regular meeting to meet the new state requirement of a 30-day window between a public hearing of a proposed calendar and its final approval.  Feedback will be accepted until 11:45 p.m. on October 17, 2014.  Key points to the calendar:

  • The calendar is identical to recent calendars in that it begins the school year during the second full week of August and ends the second semester during the week prior to the Memorial Day holiday.
  • The calendar has spring break scheduled during the last week of March and first day of April.
  • The 2015-2016 calendar is consistent with the past practice of balancing the number of days in each semester by +/- 5 days. In this case there is a four day difference.
  • This is the first calendar developed to comply with the state’s required transition from counting a school year by a minimum number of days to counting a school year by a minimum number of hours.
