The school nurses at Westerville City School District have collaborated on communication to help families better understand the procedures they are following in school related to COVID-19.

The document, which aligns with guidance from Franklin County Public Health, outlines when students should stay home or will be sent home based on their symptoms and when they can return to school.

Jess Gilbert, a school nurse at Blendon Middle School and McVay and Wilder elementaries, crafted the messaging in response to the variety of questions from parents. With so much information surrounding COVID, Gilbert said the informational one-pager offers a streamlined approach that distills what parents need to know in a simplified chart.

“We’re hoping to help people understand the processes we use when a child is ill,” she said. “We would like to educate parents about the Franklin County Public Health algorithm that guides our design making.”
