Principal Sherry Birchem addressed Pointview students during the Leadership Teams pep rally.
On Tuesday afternoon, October 25, Pointview Elementary students gathered in the gymnasium for a pep rally to kick off their 2016-2017 Leadership Teams project. The children learned from enthusiastic teachers about teams they could join, including Lighthouse (Leadership Team), Technology (Makerspace), Arts & Crafts, Think Win-Win (community service), Green & Clean,
Mentoring Team (capped at grades 3-5), Positive/Proactive Team, Newspaper, Game Club, Reader’s Theatre, Cheer, Yoga & Mindfulness, and Playground & Recess. Leadership Teams will meet starting November 4 and thereafter on every other “E-Day” afternoon.
This marks the beginning of Pointview’s Leader in Me school initiative. Last May, the school received a grand from Leader.org (I am a Leader Foundation) totaling $40,288.18. This funding will allow Pointview to become the first school in Westerville to implement The Leader in Me program by Franklin Covey, which promotes the 7 Habits – Be Proactive; Begin with the End in Mind; Put First Things First; Think Win-Win; Seek First to Understand, then to be Understood; Synergize; and Sharpen the Saw. All of these habits encourage student leadership and empower children to own their learning and behavior.
