Westerville Schools on Display September 23 at Last 4th Friday of the Season

The Westerville Visitors & Convention Bureau will end its 2016 season of Mount Carmel St. Ann’s 4th Friday Celebrations with Fall Fest on September 23 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Uptown Westerville.  

Fall Fest will feature displays and activities highlighting the students, staff and academic excellence of the Westerville City School District.  A “Maker Space” will be available for visitors to get creative and complete hands-on activities in front of Hanby Elementary School, 56 S. State St.  In addition to providing information about the district, school personnel will be looking for families to participate in an interactive audio-visual production that will ultimately be found on the district’s website.

The shops in Uptown will stay open late and food trucks will join Uptown restaurants in providing all sorts of supper-time choices.  Entertainment for the evening will include Change It Up Charlie on the AAA Ohio Auto Club Music Stage and Shane D. Wilson with Mojo’s Muse on the Arts Council of Westerville’s City Hall Stage.  In addition, there will be demonstrations by the Oasis Church Hip Hop group, Taoist Tai Chi Society, Generations Performing Arts Center and Xcel Martial Arts.

For the kids, the Westerville Puppet Posse will perform on the north side of City Hall and Westerville Library personnel will ready stories to children at Amish Originals Furniture, 38 N. State St.  The Arts Council of Westerville will be celebrating Passport to the Arts Month with interactive art stations including an instrument petting zoo.  Arts Alley will be set up next to the Visitors Bureau, 20 W. Main St.

The Westerville Division of Police will do free digital fingerprinting in the City Hall Courtyard all evening at the Westerville Division of Fire will have its fire and rescue equipment on display.

The Westerville Bicycle Club invites attendees to ride their bikes and securely store them during the event at no charge behind the Middlefield Banking Company.

The City of Westerville is encouraging all 4th Friday attendees to join in Hands Across Westerville with a human chain through Uptown Westerville, beginning at 7:15 p.m.  Similar to the 1986 event, Hands Across America, this activity promotes community togetherness across cultures.  Hands Across Westerville will celebrate the diverse races, ethnicity and cultural backgrounds that represent our area and the world of today.  It will also serve as an invitation to the Community Culture Celebration taking place on Sunday, September 25 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Heritage Christian Church, 7413 Maxtown Rd.  For more information about this free event, please visit www.westerville.org.
