A student gains a better understanding of the forces that cause planets to spin during a hands-on Astounding Astronomy activity.

Students got to explore our Solar System without ever leaving the building when COSI (Center of Science and Industry) brought its traveling science program, Astounding Astronomy, to Pointview Elementary last week.  Pupils studied the size and distance between the planets, the electromagnetic spectrum, the extreme cold of the outer planets and deep space, and learned how Earth is currently the only planet known to contain life.   Hands on activities included maneuvering a remotely operated vehicle, identifying constellations and watching the impact of air pressure on a marshmallow.

This COSI on Wheels program aligns with the Ohio Academic Content Standards and compliments the National Science Education Standards, allowing youngsters to discover the influence that chemistry and space technology has on their daily lives.
