Last spring, the students of McVay Elementary had three weeks to raise at least $4,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual Pennies for Patients fundraiser. If they reached their goal, Principal Jim Swain and Assistant Principal Jason Fullen promised to shave their heads and be taped to the wall.
The students met their goal in two weeks — just before Gov. Mike DeWine ordered schools to close amid concerns about the spread of COVID-19.
Though the district started the school year remotely, Swain and Fullen wanted to fulfill their commitment to students and on Friday, they unveiled their new haircuts as part of their video announcements.
As for getting taped to the wall? Fullen said they plan to do that when students return to the building.
