On Friday, September 20, McVay Elementary’s first graders presented Be a Leader for Peace, a concert in honor of International Peace Day.  This was the eighth annual Peace Day concert at the school.  Students performed for their families and peers.  The youngsters have been learning about the Nobel Peace Prize, discussing and practicing ways to be peaceful, and reading books about tolerance, kindness, and friendship.

The International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on September 21.  Established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to contribute to building a culture of peace.
